Crafted in partnership with Gibson Custom, now featuring a rosewood fretboard
Epiphone has once again joined forces with Gibson Custom to introduce the Inspired by Gibson
Custom 1963 Firebird I Reissue – a faithful recreation of the groundbreaking design by
renowned automotive stylist Ray Dietrich. Originally unveiled in 1963, the Firebird™ marked
Gibson’s first neck-through-body construction and quickly became a favorite among players
across genres, including blues icon Johnny Winter, Keith Richards and Brian Jones of The
Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, and Phil Manzanera of Roxy Music.
The latest Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom 1963 Firebird I Reissue brings classic Firebird
details to a wider audience, now enhanced with a rosewood fretboard. It features a 9-ply
neck-through-body crafted from mahogany and walnut, flanked by solid mahogany wings. The
fretboard hosts 22 medium jumbo frets and understated mother-of-pearl dot inlays. At the
headstock, Kluson® planetary geared “banjo” tuners ensure smooth tuning stability,
complemented by a Graph Tech® nut and the Inspired by Gibson Double Diamond emblem on
the back.
A Lightning Bar Wraparound bridge provides rock-solid performance and excellent sustain, with
compensation for precise intonation. True to the minimalist spirit of the original 1963 Firebird I,
the electronics are top-tier: a Gibson USA Firebird mini humbucker™ with Alnico 5 magnets,
CTS® controls for master volume and tone, a Black Beauty paper-in-oil capacitor, and a
Switchcraft® ¼-inch output jack deliver authentic tone and reliability. Each guitar ships with an
Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom hardshell case for premium protection.
